NATIONAL PARK BIOGRADSKA GORA

17,00 €

Masterpiece of nature

Half day excursion

Offered in English, Russian and French

Description:

Between two rivers Lim and Tara, in the middle part of Bjelasica, is located national park Biogradska Gora and within it one of the last three European rainforests. This basin has been protected since 1878. when it became so-called King’s reserve – gift to king Nikola. Glacial land forms – high mountain peaks and glaciers make wonderful contrast with lakes and meadows. Even though those peaks are over 2000 m (the highest peak is Crna Glava – 2139 m altitude) and certain types of trees in the rainforest are 40-50m tall, this area looks very tame. In the heart of the rainforest at 1094 m altitude, is located lake Biograd. The unique blue-green color of the lake comes from the dense forest which reflects in it, with its 86 three species, most part of them are protected (national park Biogradska Gora is inhabited by 20% endemic species of the Balkan Peninsula). Nature lovers can really enjoy walking through forests of spruce, fir, beech, elm, oak and lime, and ornithologists and bird lovers - observing the flight of an eagle or a hawk. Biogradska Gora is not only a masterpiece of nature, but also a real ethnological treasure. On the edges of the forest, in the summer pastures and villages, we can notice the huts, mills and shepherds huts - indigenous, folk architecture, as well as archaeological sites.
